Bitopia is an established technology service provider based in St Helens, Merseyside. We specialise in development of Bespoke Business Management Software, Web Portals and Mobile Applications. We are looking for an experienced IT Specialist to enhance our infrastructure team and make sure our customers have a stable platform to perform their daily duties and to run the systems we build.

About the IT Infrastructure Specialist Role

You will be providing Re-active and Pro-active IT Systems Support for Microsoft, Linux and Apple systems for a range of businesses across the North West of England, working within defined Service Level Agreements.

You will also be involved in delivering Server, Network and Desktop Installation, Upgrade and Migration projects to ensure the continued reliability and performance of our customers infrastructure.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Role

Resolve IT related queries within agreed SLA metrics consistently

Provide support for all applications installed on customer servers, workstations, peripheral and mobile devices

Installation and configuration of software applications on servers, workstations, peripheral and mobile devices

Support for network connectivity including Ethernet, DSL, & 3G technologies

Hardware maintenance including on-site installation, configuration and upgrading of servers, workstations and peripheral devices

Set-up and Maintenance of Virtual Machines

Provide out of hours support for project implementations, major application roll-outs and server / systems specific issues

Knowledge provision and guidance to help raise the skill sets of colleagues within IT

Supporting Customers with IT Strategy and Business Continuity Planning

About You

First and foremost you must be a strong communicator with the ability to explain technical matters in a non-technical, non-condescending manner to keep end users on your side.

Thorough understanding and experience of Dell and HP server hardware

Excellent understanding of networking including TCP/IP, DSL and mobile communications

Extensive experience with Active Directory/Microsoft server O/S & associated software including MS Exchange, VMware, Backup and AV management

Excellent understanding of routers, switches and associated networking peripherals

Knowledge of disaster recovery / business continuity planning  

An IT related degree and / or recognised IT qualifications e.g. Microsoft MCSE, MCSA or equivalent 

Full UK driving licence

Desirable Criteria

Experience of Web Server Configuration

A keen interest in Network Security

Knowledge of Firewall Appliances

Knowledge of Linux O/S

Knowledge of Apple O/S

Willing to occasionally work unsociable hours to meet project needs
