Infrastructure Architect (network, server and systems)
Salary: 30k - 45k
DESCRIPTION OF ROLE
This position primarily defines, designs, implements & supports technology solutions for small to medium clients. It also includes providing consultancy and expertise for large/enterprise clients. A wide range of technical infrastructure skills and experience are needed. This position requires a robust knowledge of both servers and networking. Robust experience in designing, building and supporting technology for small to medium organisations is a must.
The position will be part of the Managed Services team providing hosted and local infrastructure to clients, you will also be required to conduct reviews and prepare proposals for new clients. This will include both the low-level network architecture and the server infrastructure environment. You will also be responsible for providing 3rd line support for existing clients for both the networks and infrastructure environments.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
•Experience in large corporate environments.
•Consultancy / Architecture experience.
•Server Virtualisation.
•Support of Exchange and Active Directory environments.
•Experience of core Microsoft technologies, including: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Active Directory, Exchange, IIS, SQL, SharePoint, Lync.
•Experience of key virtualisation technologies such as: Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere/ESX.
•Experience with thin-client server-based technologies such as: Citrix XenApp (Presentation Server), Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services), thin-client terminals.
•Experience with enterprise storage architecture including: SAN, iSCSI, NAS and backup technologies.
•Knowledge of servers and systems.
•Experience with Active Directory and Exchange design and migration.
•Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services (IasS and SaaS)
•Networking knowledge and experience of the following skills is essential:
oLAN switching
oVLAN’s
oIP and IP subnetting
oVPN’s
oNetwork Documentation (including Visio)
•Cisco certificate is an advantage.
•Strong understanding of networking concepts including: design, VPN, firewall, LAN, WAN, MPLS, routing and security.
•Firewall management.
•Firewall architecture and implementation.
•Support of desktop machines (Win XP, Win Vista, Win 7).
•Experience in facilitating meetings with project stakeholders to capture requirements.
•Customer facing skills (presentations, meetings etc.)
•Experience with documenting requirements.
•Ability to plan, prioritise and resolve problems in a logical way.
•Strong technical communication skills.
•Be entrepreneurial, innovate, dynamic and keen to learn.
•Will demonstrate a high degree of business awareness and market knowledge.
•Must have experience in assisting sales people to specify, describe and estimate proposed solutions as part of a commercial offer.
•Must be able to identify risks inherent to particular technology solutions.
•Must be able to break down technical projects into discrete tasks to assist in the creation of a project plan.
•Must have good time-management skills and be able to report progress on projects to managers and stakeholders.
•Be familiar with ITIL service delivery and best practices.
•Experience of working in a team with a sales person to deliver presentations in a pitch context.
•An understanding of project management methodologies and be familiar with PRINCE2. You will be expected to contribute to definitions of business cases for technical projects.
