Leading high street retail business that has built a brand new state of the art fully automated distribution centre to service its Midlands stores and outlets require a Work Study Practitioner (Industrial Engineer)
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the inventory and planning functional area manager carrying out work measurement studies and method studies in order to provide both accurate productivity standards and method improvement benefit cases.
Dimensions:
The role of the Work Study Practitioner (IE) is to provide accurate time standards for all tasks in the warehouse, to be used in the planning, performance, and cost analysis functions on site. Further to this, the IE will be responsible for maintaining a historical record of both studies and study results (SMV’s), which can be interrogated as required.
In conjunction with the above time standards, the IE will be responsible for tracking and maintaining conversion factors (such as units per carton, units per order), to ensure correct factors are used where conversion is necessary.
You will be responsible for carrying out method studies across the site with the aim of producing method improvement / cost saving recommendations, and reporting their recommendations to the business via the agreed channels.
In addition to the above, you will be required to provide both support and act as subject matter expert on an ad-hoc basis to any projects that require such support other departments.
The job holder will also be required to work closely with team leaders and operational management. They must have an appreciation of the interdependencies between functional areas, which are a key feature of an automated warehouse.
Department Organisation:
The job holder will be supported by another Work Study Practitioner /Industrial Engineer within the department and together they will be responsible for all work measurement and method study across the site.
The Work Study Practitioner /Industrial Engineers will report into the Inventory and Planning Functional area Manager
Competencies
The role requires a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Individuals should have a proven track record in an industrial engineering role, preferably in a fast paced automated site.
A strong understanding of the principles of lean methodology, and cost benefit case reporting is required.
Individuals must have strong communication and organisational skills and be on an analytical nature, as well as possess the ability to effectively manage own time and workload.
Principal Accountabilities:
Carrying out of Work measurement studies in line with required program
Communication, maintenance, and historical recording of results of the work measurement studies in required programs / systems
Carrying out of Method studies to improve operational process efficiency and implement cost savings
Communication, maintenance, and historical recording of results of method studies in required programs / systems, as well as validating of cost savings and improved efficiencies
Support the implementation of processes on site as required
Ad hoc support of projects as required, in either a support or subject matter expert
Maintenance of conversion factor values in required programs / systems
Ensure compliance with all issues relating to Health & Safety, the Environment and Security
