Our client based in Kettering is seeking an experiened Health & Safety, Environment and Energy Co-ordinator. This a standalone role which will report directly to the Plant Manager.

Dutes include:

To maintain legal compliance in the area of Health, Safety and Environment.

To develop, introduce, maintain and continually improve a Health & Safety management system, working towards OSHA 18000 standards and with the future aim to achieve accreditation.

To chair the Health and Safety Committee.

To perform the legal task of safety and environmental officer including involvement in the Project Management (pre-project risk assessments of new machines and installations); regular visits to the workplace; organising of safety awareness campaigns; organising and giving safety training to employees; accident investigation and follow up; keeping MSDS database up to date; overseeing first aid provisions; supervision of the legal periodic safety controls and legal internal and external reporting (accidents, month and year reports).

To maintain and continually improve the company’s ISO14001 accreditation. This will include the chairing of the Environment and Energy Committee, management of waste transfer notes, waste carrier licenses, overseeing the various site waste streams, etc. , ensuring internal and external audits are carried out along with relevant follow up actions.

To monitor and report on the company’s Energy targets. This include the expansion and completion of the metering and monitoring system, liaison with the Division Environment & Safety Manager, site projects manager and the Division Energy Manager to set budgets/targets on ECO’s and utility consumptions.

To manage and lead investment and projects which improve the Health, Safety and Environment on the site. To recommend future projects for consideration by both the Health and Safety and Environment and Energy Committees.

To manage and lead investment and process improvement projects which reduce energy, water consumption and product losses and lead to the Company’s objective of carbon neutrality by 2020. These projects will be undertaken in close co-operation with the Division Energy Manager and the Division Engineering and Technology Team.

Oversee fire provisions and procedures on site, ensuring site systems and equipment are maintained and checked as is required by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. This will include ensuring fire evacuation drills and fire risks assessments are carried out and taking responsibility for loss control (insurer) visits and follow up actions.

Education

Essential: Health, Safety and Environmental Degree or combination of NEBOSH H&S Diploma + NEBOSH Environmental Certificate. Desirable: Engineering qualification.

Experience and Technical Skills

Essential: Experience of working in a process environment, Qualified and experience of Health & Safety management, Experience of Environmental Management, Experience of overseeing fire related provisions and procedures.

Desirable: Electrical and/or mechanical engineering experience, Food Manufacturing background.

Process understanding

Operational knowledge of health, safety, fire and environment legislative and best practice requirements

Writing and training of Health, Safety and Environmental procedures

Ability to manage projects

Ability to manage budgets

Desirable: Knowledge of food hygiene requirements

Good PC skills and with a reasonable/good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
