A multi million pound global food manufacturing company based in the South West is recruiting for a Head of Purchasing. The organisation is continuously growing both organically and through acquisition, supporting the philosophy of developing and refining customer solutions.
Job Description
The head of purchasing will be based in the South West, with six direct reports. Within a dedicated team and reporting to the manufacturing director, this position will be responsible for cost-effective sourcing, negotiation, procurement and supply of materials.
The role will include the purchase of raw and cooked food products as well as packaging and other materials, from a variety of diverse markets around the world. As such, this role calls for a proven purchasing professional with knowledge and experience of modern buying techniques, especially in the FMCG sector. The role will require some travel, mostly within the UK, possibly extending towards international travel as required.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be a persuasive, decisive thinker with the ability to work to tight deadlines and engage a team - educated to degree level, highly numerate and holding a full driving licence. Desirable traits include man management qualifications, German language skills and membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
It is essential that applicants have a comprehensive understanding of critical supplier processes and supply chain, demonstrable experience of running significant budgets over varied markets, working knowledge of SAP (or equivalent MRP systems) and experience of managing and developing a team. Experience of buying from multiple global sources, working in food manufacturing and taking a role in a senior management team will be beneficial.
