JOB CONTEXT/BACKGROUND
As part of our client's Fundraising Department, the Corporate Partnerships Team is responsible for forging long term mutually beneficial partnerships with companies that translate into market advantage for the partner; and transformational change, communications and fundraising benefit for the company.
As the business community offers one of the most effective routes to finding solutions to the world’s environmental challenges, our engagements with corporate partners are based on a twin track principle where companies are taken on a 'sustainability journey’ at the same time as developing a fundraising strategy. Their fundraising varies across a multitude of disciplines including philanthropic, cause-related marketing, sponsorship and employee engagement. .
JOB PURPOSE:
The Head of New Business Development purpose is to:
- Implement a strategy to engage new commercial organisations with the mission of the company and to maximise the value of these engagements by ensuring they deliver transformational change, communications and fundraising benefit for the company
- Manage, develop and lead the Corporate New Business Team through clearly defined and achievable objectives and targets under the organisations’ Business and Industry strategy and in line with the client’s mission.

Working relationships: Working closely with employees from across the organisation including the Programmes, Communications and Fundraising Departments
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Lead activity responsible for developing relationships with corporate partners, meeting business transformational change, financial and brand objectives;
• Work with teams and departments across the organisation to continuously refine and implement a prospecting strategy that identifies priority transformational prospects that will maximise value for the organisation;
• Implement an engagement strategy with "pop-up" affiliate company opportunities, ensuring that the New Business Team spends we spend no more than 20% of our time developing relationships with these non-strategic companies;
• Establish and maintain a pipeline progress chart which shows real-time status of targeted accounts;
• Meet or exceed annual income targets from companies new to the company through the development of a wide range of fundraising activities and techniques;
• Manage the New Business team in delivering strategy, in particular taking responsibility for:
- Managing and developing the expertise and knowledge of the New Business team, taking responsibility for personal development and learning
- Managing performance
• Develop strong and effective relationships with departments across the company to ensure the new business strategy delivers for the organisation as a whole.
• Draft high quality papers for senior management that present well balanced arguments for partnership approval;
• Liaise with their Network Offices, representing the company's interests, keeping overseas colleagues updated and in the development and account management of global partnerships;
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate should also be able to show evidence of the following specific
attributes:
• Degree or equivalent standard education;
• Experience of strategy development and implementation
• Experience of leading teams and effective staff management
• Experience of securing, developing and managing corporate relationships in a sales focused role;
• Experience of managing budgets and financial planning;
• Experience in relationship development across all fundraising dimensions (cause related marketing, sponsorship, employee engagement and philanthropy) desired, but not mandatory;
• Experience of successfully building relationships with people at all levels of business;
• Excellent sales, and account handling skills and attention to detail;
• Excellent writing and presentation skills;
• Effective decision maker;
• Excellent networking, negotiation and communication skills, written and oral;
• Background knowledge of key issues in conservation and sustainability is highly
desirable in order to facilitate dual track engagement with corporate partners
(transformational business change and fundraising).
