General Fitter

You’ll make sure the machinery we rely on is in tip-top condition, servicing, maintaining and repairing everything from JCBs to excavators. On top of that, you’ll learn how to run a safe, efficient workshop and become an expert in petrol and diesel engines, generators, pumps and transmission systems.
To be up to the job, you’ll need to be physically fit and have three GCSEs at Grade C or above including Maths and English. You’ll enjoy fixing stuff, driving and being outdoors. You’ll also know your way around a computer. Any experience you’ve gained in something relevant such as vehicle repair, mechanical engineering or ammunition handling would be a bonus: our training will do the rest.
After basic training in soldiering skills, you’ll learn everything you need to become a General Fitter - from bench fitting and construction techniques to mobile generators and transmission systems. There’s the chance to gain useful engineering qualifications too such as NVQs in Engineering Maintenance.
