Established in 1967, our client is a leading independent publisher of global research with impact in business, society, public policy and education. In total, they publish over 700 titles, comprising of 200 journals, nearly 300 books and more than 200 book series, as well as an extensive range of online products and services.

The Business, Management & Economics Publishing Division is looking for a new Development Editor.

THE ROLE
As Development Editor you will ensure the successful development and profitable publication of assigned products, by working closely with all key internal and external stakeholders. You will also be working on journals throughout the areas of regional management and marketing. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing allocated portfolios of journals, with a view to increasing quality of content and ensuring they are delivered to agreed schedules; with an editorial direction and content that meets the needs of readers and users.
  • Ensuring journals’ alignment with company and divisional strategies, as well as monitoring their performance against external and internal measures to help develop tactical plans for improvement.
  • Managing external stakeholders to ensure effective performance, communication at all levels, and recruiting new and replacement editors where appropriate.
  • Effectively establishing, monitoring, and managing editorial and journal budgets.
  • Processing issues, chasing outstanding items, handling plagiarism cases, and dealing with author queries, where appropriate.
  • Developing market knowledge through systematic market research and the proactive establishment of a strong network of editors, reviewers and authors.
  • Understanding the subject communities, developing effective communication with them, and establishing leads to generate content and improve the impact of the titles.
  • Sharing responsibility for brand strategies for the subject portfolios
  • Attending conferences and meetings, as appropriate, presenting IGGPs and seeking out speaking slots at external events and academic institutions.
  • Identifying and proactively seeking out business opportunities for the wider company; passing on leads and important market information to the Business Development and Sales & Marketing functions.

 
THE PERSON
You will be well educated with previous experience of Publishing Editorial functions. In addition, you will need to demonstrate strong project management skills and be able to quickly establish credibility with Editors.

You will be a creative and enthusiastic team player, with the ability to manage time and conflicting workloads effectively to meet deadlines. You will have excellent analytical, problem solving, and organisational skills with the ability to communicate clearly in person, on paper, and electronically.
