Job Description

Main tasks of the role: 

For the purposes of this document “the Groups Databases” (the GDB) includes our primary internal databases as well as our externally facing income generated websites.

1. To take responsibility, in conjunction with the IT Manager, for the development and enhancement of the GDB in line with Group objectives as well as acting as a focal point for all future developments of the GDB. This aspect includes:

a) Collating and investigating all reported problems with the GDB.
b) Maintaining the system’s enhancements and errors logs.
c) Keeping the Operational Management Team periodically informed vis-à-vis
any enhancements to the GDB and rectification of reported errors.
d) Arranging and attending regular development meetings.
e) Ensuring that any authorised enhancements are followed through to
completion within agreed time frames.
f) Liaising with the Group’s Testing Team regarding any issues arising
with the ‘Development’ version of the GDB prior to roll out.
g) Rolling out new versions of the GBD to all staff.
h) Drafting and disseminating the GDB release notes to all staff prior to any
new release.

2. To provide the senior members of staff with management information and reports as and when required to do so. This task includes: -

a) Providing ad-hoc management information reports upon request.
b) Creating and maintaining the reports contained in the Groups’ Report Centre.
c) Maintaining and adding to (upon request) the suite of reports in the Report Centre which are automatically run daily, weekly or monthly.
d) Maintaining and developing (upon request) the Groups’ version of the Microsoft Report Builder (MISYS).

3. To take responsibility for operational aspects of the IT Department in the absence of the IT Manager and Assistant IT Manager. This task includes:-

a) Gaining and maintaining a basic knowledge of the Group’s network
system.
b) Monitoring the Group’s servers in line with the agreed Group
guidelines.
c) Undertaking periodical reboots of the Group’s servers as and when
required to do so.
d) Remedying, in conjunction with external service contractors, all problems
related to the Group’s servers.
e) Implementing the Group’s backup procedures.
f) Ensuring that the agreed workstation IT fault logging procedures are
followed.
g) Acting upon requests for IT-related stationery i.e. toners etc.

Person Specification

Attributes required: 

1. Experience in application development, maintenance and support.
2. Experience in a range of technologies e.g. SQL, ASP.Net, MVC 3, Jquery/ JavaScript, CSS, C# and Entity Framework.
3. Good understanding of IT and its application in the business environment.
4. Good understanding of development techniques, tools and methodologies.
5. Ability to plan and manage own workload appropriately.
6. Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
