Design Engineer

Overview:

To ensure that the design of products offered by the Company continue to be the world leader.  Working with Sales, Project Management, Purchasing and the Technical Department.

Duties:

• Working closely with Senior Design Engineer and contact with Sales and Project Management in both Oil and Gas and Structures as necessary  to produce designs to schedule.
• Providing product engineering support and analysis.
• Undertaking design calculations for static, fatigue and finite element analyses.
• Preparing detailed and schematic engineering drawings for suppliers in both 3D and 2D.
•  Preparing assembly drawings in both 3D and 2D along with instructions as necessary for use both internally and externally to identify any special areas for consideration.
• Checking work produced by other team members as necessary to ensure compliance with International Standards, Customer Specifications and dimensional accuracy.
• Maintaining comprehensive records for design calculations and drawings.

Experience & Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• Membership of appropriate Professional Institution and aiming for Chartered Status
• At least 3 years post graduation experience in design engineering.
• An analytical disposition, with strong attention to detail.
• Good Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, 3-D design
• Working knowledge of Mathcad.
• Proficient in the use of MS Office, including Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook.
• Knowledge of FEA would be desireable.
• Experience of working and interpreting International standards.
• Self-starter; able to work independently without extensive supervision and to tight constraints.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills appropriate for liaising with customers and suppliers.
• Experience in the design of steel castings and steel forgings would be advantageous
• Full UK driving licence.
