Database Administrator DBA

Our client is a successful financial services company based in the heart of Norwich. We have been retained to locate the services of an excellent Database Administrator (DBA) with a solid understanding of the technologies combined with excellent previous experience.

The Role

The successful application will be responsible for maintaining and developing the internal databases, managing their performance, availability and security to meet the highly demanding business’ requirements.

Personal Specification
 At least two years’ experience in similar role
 At least two years’ experience of SQL Server (2000, 2005)
 A self-starter, able to set standards and persuade others. Keen to promote best practice and support for procedures.
 Continuously delivery of high quality high volume output in an ever changing environment
 Ability to work under pressure with an eye for detail and quality
 Good communication skills both written and oral
 Good team worker with the ability to work unsupervised
 Ability to train and supervise junior team members
 An understanding of financial products and services.

Essential Skills
 At least two years’ experience of T-SQL including creating Stored Procedures, Views, Functions and data processing scripts.
 Experience of managing and maintaining Microsoft SQL databases
 Experience in .Net development (C# and VB.Net for Windows applications and web systems)
 Experience in XML for data interchange, including XSD and XSLT.
 Experience in SQL monitoring – uptime, resource usage, query performance and interpretation of information

Desirable Skills
 Good knowledge of Visual Basic (VB6 and VBA) development tools and web technologies.
 Database design Skills
 Experience of using a virtualised infrastructure (VMWare)
 Experience of Windows and SQL Clustering
 Experience of Reporting Tools
 Experience of Data Warehousing
 Knowledge of Data Mining techniques
