CURRICULUM TUTOR

St Elizabeth’s College of Further Education is seeking a Curriculum Tutor to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.  This is a temporary contract to cover maternity leave, anticipated to end 27th July 2012.

You will have experience in working with young people with learning disabilities, in either a care or learning setting and are committed to helping them to overcome their barriers to learning.   Ideally you will have PTTLS and NVQ 2 in Learning or Care with excellent written/verbal communication skills with both learners and colleagues.  An understanding of the importance of working to individual learning plans is required.

Closing Date:            23rd February 2012              Interviews: 6th March 2012

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, 08.30 to 16.30, flexible to meet service needs. 30 minutes unpaid break.

Outside of term time, if service needs require we may ask that you revert to a two shift pattern of service of 07.15 - 14.45 or 14.30 - 21:45.

SCOPE OF THE JOB:

  • The scope of this job requires the holder to carry out responsibilities in both the learning and care environments.
  • To work as a key member of a multi disciplinary team providing development opportunities in all aspects of learning, leisure and work to enable all learners to achieve maximum independence and potential. 
  • Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, vulnerable adults and young people.

SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEARNING    

  • To be aware of Individual Development Plans (IDP) of learners and to plan, support and record progress in all learning experiences, opportunities and curriculum sessions.
  • To ensure the Lead Senior Curriculum Tutor is aware of any concerns, difficulties or exemplary practice brought to your attention.
  • To carry out all timetabled tasks and carry out assessments as necessary, keeping written records and providing written reports as necessary.
  • To provide learners with guidance on appropriate adult social behaviour.
  • To support the learners in gaining accreditation of achievements.
  • To promote the College Policy for Equality and Diversity.
  • To undertake appropriate personal and professional development.
  • To be personally responsible for your own Health and Safety and to be aware of obligations to other staff and customers in accordance with legislation.
  • To attend and contribute to weekly meetings and team meetings.
  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Line Manager.       

CARE EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • To take a lead role in ensuring all policies and practice support the aims of the Centre, the College and the requirements set out in the College’s policies and those of the Learning and Skills Council.
  • To oversee and promote high standards of welfare, self-care and independent living skills.
  • To assist learners with their personal and health needs.
  • To ensure the wellbeing and safety of learners in line with policies and procedures.
  • Participates in mandatory training and commits to work towards NVQ 3 in Learning and Development.
  • Undertakes training to administer medicines safely and in line with the Centre’s Policies/Procedures.
  • Develops self through a personal development planning process.
  • Contributes to the training/development of service users as identified in the College Learning Programme.
