The Role
The Software Engineering Role is to provide Software and Automation support activities on a large number of highly complex and integrated, automated manufacturing lines.
Primarily utilising Allen Bradley PLC software skills to debug line performance, uptime and cycle time issues.
They will work as part of a cross functional team in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement software projects, working with mechanical and process engineers providing software solutions.
The scope of work can also involve working with project and other software engineers on capital equipment projects including installation, debug and optimisation efforts.

The Engineers will work on projects from beginning of the design process, through installation and start-up process of both large capital equipment projects and smaller continuous improvement projects.

The successful candidates will work closely with other engineering disciplines in the development and application of expert troubleshooting of equipment and processes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop, test and install PLC and control software as part of a highly automated, complex, high volume 24/7 validated production environment
• Develop Functional and Detailed Design Specifications from User Requirement Specifications on integrated, highly complex, automated manufacturing lines.
• Develop high quality right first time PLC and HMI code development strategy from Functional and Detailed Design Specifications
• Adopt responsibility for the project management of control systems and software based projects across a cross functional multidiscipline team environment.
• Participates on and lead project teams, provide technical support and make informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection.
• Monitor and analyse opportunities for the development of new or improved tools for process improvement activities.
• Identify and lead cost and technical improvements under the departments’ continuous improvement program.
• Fault-find complex automation equipment
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of code to Medical Device standards
• Prioritise multiple tasks while working to tight schedule

The Successful Candidate
I am looking to receive applications from candidates with the following skills and experience

• Primary Degree (Level 8) in an appropriate engineering or Computer Science with minimum 4 years experience.
• Relevant experience with automated control systems.
• Strong PLC background in the following areas:

-Allen Bradley ControlLogix 5000

Any experience with the following products would also be useful:

-Siemens S7
-APT
-Pilz Safety PLCs
-Wonderware
-Intouch
-ArchestraA
-HMI software
-Step 7
-Pilz- or any Safety PLC’s
-Network IT skills -

• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, root cause analysis and risk assessments with a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven leadership abilities.
• Familiarity with manufacturing and validation in a regulated (FDA or IMB) environment an advantage.
• Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Experience of lean concepts such as 5S and standard work would be an advantage.
