The main objectives of this role are to secure profitable new business, retain existing business, develop strong relationships and report on results. You will pro-actively develop profitable commercial business through technical assessment of individual risk involving the negotiation and processing of suitable terms for new business, change in risk, claims and renewals.
Job Description
Main responsibilities:
- Acquisition of new cases through underwriting of new business leads and opportunities received within the Jobholders personal underwriting authority following Company procedures, practices and guidelines to meet the Company’s growth targets.
- Underwrite existing business (MTA’s, Renewals, Surveys and Post Claims action) within Company procedures, practices and guidelines to maximise retention of profitable business to support the Company’s growth target
- Identify opportunities to develop relationships with intermediaries
- Consider and act on the underwriting implications of claims to minimise the potential for repetition of loss
- Accurately respond to queries raised on policies and products by brokers, surveyors, accounts and claims departments
- Handle technical referrals from less experienced colleagues from Operations or Underwriting in order that business can be dealt with effectively within correct authority levels and in doing so coaching colleagues to broaden their understanding and ability.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
- Experienced within a technical commercial insurance environment.
- Have detailed underwriting experience in property, pecuniary and liability classes of insurance
- The ability to assess technical risk and make decisions within their authority on all aspects of the products they handle
- ACII/Diploma or similar level of technical insurance qualification
