Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

                                            Mon - Fri.   08.30 to 17.00              

                                            Shifts include 30 mins unpaid break

Caretaker/Handyman

Europa are currently seeking a Caretaker/Handyman to carry out a range of tasks on Gateshead College contract based at Nissan Training Centre

As the Caretaker within the Caretaking Team of the business you will be responsible for the daily delivery on a range of services on any of the Gateshead College premises.

The key responsibilities for the Caretaker/Handyman will include:

• To carry out porterage tasks such as moving furniture, and equipment
• Carry out internal and external cleaning duties
• Carry out snow clearance and gritting as required
• Maintain all necessary records and submit reports. These will include a weekly cleaning audit.
• Carry out minor handyman duties as may arise. These will include carrying out statutory checks such as the weekly fire alarm test, monthly emergency lighting check, monthly temperature checks on the water system, and a monthly check on fire extinguishers.
• The caretaker is expected to assist cleaning operatives perform their duties and for the periods where no cleaning operatives are present the caretaker will carry out cleaning duties to maintain the cleaning standards.
• Carry out other duties as appropriate to the position which would include painting during periods of closure
• The post holder will also be the out of hours key holder for the building, reactive monitoring of the CCTV system and perform other security duties as required.
• Part of the caretaking duties will include to assist anyone ( internal or members of the public ) in the use of the external electric car charging point.

The successful Caretaker/Handyman will have:

• As the position involves working in an establishment where young persons and vulnerable people are in attendance the post holder, a satisfactory enhanced CRB disclosure is essential, although the person would be permitted to work during the submission process.
• The person must hold a full UK driving license
• Be flexible in their approach to work
• Be able to prioritise duties and exercise initiative
• Physically fit
• Good customer care skills
• Clean and tidy in appearance
• The person will be expected to cover for absent colleagues and could be asked to work overtime.
• There is a need for the person to hold a current a SIA door license and CCTV
