CARE ASSISTANT

Qualifications & Experience  Required 

NVQ 2  in Care

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

To be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Overall Purpose of Job

To work as part of the team delivering care services

Protection of Residents

  • Maintain  a working knowledge of the regulations that apply to residential homes and apply it in the workplace
  • Use courteous and appropriate behavior in all interaction with residents
  • Be aware of the physical hazards in the Home and report any actual or potential problems
  • Report any concerns regarding the behavior of any of the Home’s workers or residents towards any other Home worker or resident that you consider abusive, demeaning or inappropriate.

Delivery of care

  • To maintain Care Plans on a daily basis.
  • To report any change in residents condition to the Manager.
  • To help serve meals and assist residents where necessary.
  • Help to clear away the dishes afterwards and attend to residents.
  • To report incidents to residents, staff or visitors to the Manager, and to record it in the Accident Record Book.
  • To clean up spillages as they occur using appropriate equipment supplied and as specified in the Control of Infection Policy.
  • To accompany to Doctor’s Surgery, Hospital or any such appointments as necessary.
  • To assist with any other duties if required

Residents welfare

  • To help the residents lead as full a life as possible through interaction, listening and using advise from Senior Care Workers.
  • To care for residents property and that belonging to the Home as directed.
  • To care for equipment and report any defects to the Manager.
  • To accompany residents to activities outside the Home when necessary ensuring their health, safety and well being at all times.
  • To help wash and dress residents when necessary.
  • To help residents with their toilet requirements.

Staff Development and Training

  • Effective participation in staff meetings
  • Effective participation in training courses
  • Understand and implement health and safety procedures that apply at the Home.

NVQ Level 2 desirable but not necessary, higher hourly rate for those already qualified.
