Army Musicians
Starting salary £17,265
(with a 'Golden Hello’ of up to £3,500)

What do you want to play? Army musicians don’t just perform traditional marches. From classical, jazz and swing to rock and pop, they play all kinds of styles, in all kinds of groups, to all kinds of audiences - and all over the world.

You could be playing anywhere - from ambassadorial receptions, sporting or social occasions to events welcoming regiments home, and even at operating bases in Afghanistan. Wherever you play, your audience will always be glad to hear you. And you’ll have the chance to record too, as your career progresses with us.

As the biggest employer of professional musicians in the country, we offer lots of continuous development opportunities. To join us, you’ll need to be able to read music - and love to play it. Your performance at the audition is extremely important as this is the only way to gain entry.

Attending the Royal Military School of Music in Twickenham, you’ll learn from some of the best teachers in the world. We’ll also fund and support your study towards a degree in music, or postgraduate qualifications. If you want to go further, you could pursue the opportunity to become a musical director.

There are plenty of other skills to pick up too, as you undertake the same initial training course as every other soldier in the Army - learning core military skills such as weapon handling and living in field conditions. You’ll grow your stamina and fitness and, if you like, have plenty of opportunities to get involved in outdoor pursuits, such as mountaineering, scuba diving or parachuting. And, supporting the Army Medical Services, you could be deployed on operations to boost the morale of serving troops.

At every stage of your career, you’ll enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package. This will include subsidised accommodation and food costs, free health care, the opportunity to travel and, of course, getting paid to do what you enjoy most.

If you’ve got a passion for music, then share it with the nation.
