Job Description
YMCA are currently seeking a key person as an Area Director in Great Yarmouth working as part of their senior management team.
Role Purpose
To lead the delivery and development of YMCA Norfolk’s mission in Great Yarmouth, working as a member of the Executive Team to provide collective strategic leadership to the organisation so that young people can belong, contribute and thrive.
Strategy
1. To provide leadership and an effective strategic focus to YMCA Norfolk’s work in the post holder’s geographic area of responsibility.
2. To play a strategic role across the county in the post holder’s thematic area (youth engagement), ensuring the organisation is aware of the wider funding, policy and legislatory environment and has plans manage the risks and opportunities they present.
3. To provide collective leadership for the organisation with Executive Team colleagues.
Young people
4. To ensure that young people’s needs and wishes are at the centre of the post holder’s work.
5. To actively encourage a culture of involvement and inclusion of young people in the work of YMCA Norfolk, providing practical opportunities for them to lead and contribute.
Development
6. To lead the development of new programmes, activities and partnerships in the post holder’s locality area in line with the organisation’s business plan.
7. To develop ‘signature programmes’ in the post holder’s thematic lead area and support colleagues in their implementation across the
Performance
8. To ensure the highest standard of housing management, housing related support and housing facilities provision in line with funding requirements, legislation and good practice.
9. To ensure that housing occupancy, voids, arrears and bad debt performance are at least in line with budget and that evictions are minimized.
10. To lead the development of effective budgets for the post holders locality lead area encouraging ownership by budget leads, where present.
11. To recruit, induct, manage and develop the post holder’s direct reports including recorded monthly line management supervision, ensuring a motivated and effective staff team.
12. Adhering to sound management practise. Setting appropriate targets for the direct reports, monitoring performance and supporting them to maximise their potential.
13. Challenge poor performance, supported by HR colleagues.
Communication
14. To ensure effective liaison with Executive Team colleagues regarding issues related to the post holders thematic and locality lead areas.
15.To work closely with the Area Director Housing lead and Compliance Manager to ensure all housing services are consistent with organised quality and standards, policies and procedures are adhered to.
Person Specification
Key Requirements
? Proven record of housing knowledge including legislation, regulation and housing finance.
? Demonstrable understanding and up to date knowledge of working with young people
? Experience of the voluntary or housing association sectors
? Recent strategic management experience
