3rd Line Engineer - Windows Server - Networking - Vmware - SQL
9 month Fixed Term Contract
Main Purpose of role
*To proactively support the monitoring of servers, storage, network and systems for capacity and performance purposes.
*To ensure all systems, databases and network equipment are actively managed, monitored and maintained in line with industry best practice to meet business requirements
*To make recommendations for system changes to meet documented SLA's and strategic business need.
*To design, develop and deliver a solution for the timely recovery of core systems (i.e. Web, Exchange, Citrix) in the event of a disaster following corporate project methodology frameworks
*To work in conjunction with technical peers to design and deliver a strategic file server solution incorporating elements such as file archiving and with the potential to leverage technologies such as Sharepoint for document management.
*To ensure all solutions are formally documented to agreed standards and suitably handed over as part of project delivery
Required Knowledge
*Proven knowledge of IT practices and processes conducted in support of production service deliveries - preferably in a Financial Services environment.
*Strong technical knowledge of Windows Server (2003 & 2008) and Windows XP / 7 - Microsoft accreditation preferred, e.g. MCTS / MCITP).
*Active networking (Cisco and Netscreen, TCP/IP, LAN, WAN) knowledge - CCNA preferred.
*Understanding of COM+ and IIS.
*Knowledge of VMWare vSphere 4.
*Knowledge of Intel based server hardware - HP preferred
*SAN and backup configuration knowledge - EMC preferred.
*Experience in the installation and configuration of MS SQL Server 2008 and Sharepoint 2010 advantageous
Personal specification a serious "technologist" with a strong personal as well as professional interest in all forms of Information Technology.
This position will be working on a Fixed Term Contract basis for the initial 9 month period.
