Paul Weiland

Paul Weiland, Award-winning Commercials and Film Director

Paul Weiland is an award winning commercials and television director, writer and producer. In fact he has made over 500 commercials for a number of different brands, including a popular and long-running series for Walkers crisps featuring Gary Linekar.

He has also directed several British television series, including Alas Smith and Jones (1989-1992) and Mr. Bean (1991-1994).

His feature film credits include Made of Honor (2008), Sixty Six (2006), Blackadder: Back & Forth (1999), Roseanna's Grave (1997), City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold (1994) and Leonard Part 6 (1987).

This is Paul's 4th year judging the reed.co.uk Short Film Competition.

Nicola Reed

Nicola Reed, Art curator

The idea for reed.co.uk's annual Short Film Competition was first conceived by Nicola Reed, as she looked for an innovative way for a growing an influential online brand to support creativity and the arts.

Nicola is an active member of the arts community. Educated with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Art at Central St Martin's College in London, Nicola is Chair of the Tate Advisory Council, works with the Hayward Gallery and is the Arts Advisor to charitable organisation, theBigGive.

Nicola has taught at schools and colleges in London and currently lectures at the University of Gloucester. She worked as Creative Director at MTV, where she curated 12 shows and formulated a collection of work, and has gone on to curate a number of successful shows across the capital.

Alexandra Roach

Alexandra Roach, Actor

Welsh actor Alexandra Roach graduated from RADA in 2010. Having played the lead in a number of plays, including Juliet in ROMEO AND JULIET, she chose to leave the prestigious drama school early when she was cast in one of the lead roles in the three hander THE DOOR NEVER CLOSES at The Almeida in May 2010. Almost immediately, she was then cast alongside Meryl Streep as the young Margaret Thatcher in Phyllida Lloyd's Thatcher Oscar winning biopic THE IRON LADY.

A Screen International 'Star of Tomorrow' for 2011, by 2012 Roach landed the role of Molly in the adaptation film Private and Peaceful, based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo. Alexandra recently finished filming British comedy 'CUBAN FURY' alongside a stellar British cast including Nick Frost, Chis O'Dowd, Rory Kinnear and Olivia Colman amongst many others (Due for release in March 2013) Alexandra appears in Channel 4's six part, six hour cult conspiracy part drama series 'Utopia' alongside Paul Higgins, Nathan Stewart-Jarret and Neil Maskell. Charles Gant

Charles Gant, Film Editor and Critic, Heat Magazine, The Guardian & Variety

Charles Gant is the Film Editor and chief film critic of Heat magazine, the big-selling UK celebrity entertainment weekly.

His freelance activities include writing two monthly columns for Sight & Sound's 'The Industry' section: 'The Numbers', on arthouse box-office; and 'Development Tale', on a film's development journey.

He writes a weekly UK box-office commentary for Guardian.co.uk and reviews films for leading Hollywood trade publication Variety. He appears from time to time on Radio 4's 'The Film Programme', presented by Francine Stock.

Charles has served on the jury for the EE Rising Star Award since its inception, and on juries for BAFTA and Film 4's Scene Stealers. He is part of the 70-strong committee that produces nominations for the British Independent Film Awards, and votes in the London Critics' Circle Film Awards.

Caroline Rowland

Caroline Rowland, Founder & Executive Creative Director, New Moon

Caroline Rowland is Founder and Executive Creative Director of New Moon, the company made famous by its films for the London 2012 Olympic Games and renowned for their films about sport and the human spirit.

Within six days of launching New Moon in 1996, Caroline received her first brief and within six weeks she had won three global brands as clients. Having started from a spare room with less than £1,000 in the bank, Caroline now leads a talented team from the heart of London's Soho, but operating in over 20 countries around the world.

Caroline juggles the demands of being a hands-on creative director, director and producer with leading her team, working with bids and brands as a strategic consultant and inspiring audiences as a public speaker.

Johnny Fewings

Johnny Fewings, Producer at JFMC

Johnny Fewings is a record and film industry veteran of over 36 years. Prior to establishing JFMC he was the VP for Strategic Initiatives at Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE), the home entertainment arm of Universal Pictures.

Previously, Johnny was the deputy MD of Vision Video Ltd. (VVL), a video publishing imprint of Polygram Records UK which specialised in non-film entertainment, particularly comedy. VVL was largely responsible for creating the comedy-on-video market for which the UK is the field leader, representing artists such as Billy Connolly, Lee Evans, Peter Kay, Ricky Gervais and Eddie Izzard.

Following Polygram's acquisition by Universal, Johnny became Joint MD of Universal Pictures in 2002, holding this position until 2007 when he became head of Strategic Initiatives and was executive producer on the motion picture '4321', starring and directed by BAFTA Award winner Noel Clarke.

More recently Johnny has exec produced 'A Fantastic Fear Of Everything' starring Simon Pegg and directed by Crispian Mills, and 'Storage 24', again starring Noel Clarke.

Diane Kelly

Diane Kelly, Publicity Director, Universal Pictures

Diane Kelly is Publicity Director at Universal Pictures UK and has been responsible for the publicity across some of Universal's most high-profile and successful films.

She has devised and implemented campaigns on titles such as Atonement, Mamma Mia, A Serious Man, Bridesmaids and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Prior to Universal she worked at Freud Communications, one of the UK' s leading PR firms where she managed publicity campaigns on films including United 93, Shaun of the Dead, Pride and Prejudice and Love Actually.

James Richardson

James Richardson, Vertigo Films

James Richardson co-founded Vertigo Films in 2002 with Allan Niblo with whom he has produced or exec produced 18 films including The Football Factory, It's all Gone Pete Tong, The Business, Bronson, The Children, Oscar Nominated Ajami, international hit StreetDance 3D and its sequel StreetDance 2 and critically acclaimed Monsters.

James is currently in pre-production with Kill Command, Monsters: Dark Continent and Walking on Sunshine.

George Isaac, Producer

George Isaac's first film Nits earned him a BAFTA nomination, before going on to win the 2004 TCM award, as well as being selected to screen out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival

His first two feature films as a producer, Kidulthood and Adulthood were both commercially successful and received a clutch of awards. Adulthood resulted in the 2009 BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award for Noel Clarke as well as the Screen Nation Honorary Production Award.

In 2006 Kidulthood received the Douglas Hickox Award for Directing at the BIFAs, as well as a nomination for Best Achievement in Production and the Dinard Film Festival Best Screenplay accolade.
