Overview

The online REPs-endorsedcombinedYMCA Awards Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym-Based Exercise) & Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (Gym-Based Exercise) allows you to study both qualification levels in one affordable package and register with the REPs (Register of Exercise Professionals).

The course is perfect for you if you have no prior qualifications or experience in the industry and want to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to work unsupervised as a personal trainer.

The Level 2 Certificate will teach you about the principles of exercise, fitness and health; anatomy and physiology for exercise; supporting clients; and health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment. You will then study the Gym-Based Exercise Pathway to prepare you for the Level 3 Certificate. The Level 2 support period is 6 months.

The Level 3 Certificate will build on these key skills and develop your knowledge further, teaching you to create a personal training programme for clients, apply the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme, and deliver personal training sessions. The Level 3 support period is 9 months.

This combined course also provides the foundation for gaining further qualifications in the health and fitness industry, in areas such as outdoor fitness, sports conditioning, sports massage, exercise referral, or business skills for fitness professionals.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
