Understanding Criminal Law Course

Protection and security is an essential need of a society, and the body of law that regulates social conduct punishes people who violate the law and harm others. Criminal law promotes health and safety of the people as well as their properties. Criminal law also resolves conflicts between citizens having disputes. It promotes peace and order in handling grievances, as well as ensures that individual rights are protected.

At the end of this course, students shall learn how to: (1) understand criminal law; (2) understand the definition of homicide; (3) comprehend assault; (4) be familiar with property offences; (5) be aware of accomplices and inchoate offences; and (6) be familiar with defences.

Society can stand and protect its own but criminal law provides a standard of conduct that all citizens of a certain state have to follow since it is the same law that will protect them against harm and crimes.
