Are you considering becoming a Drugs Worker?
Did you know that since 2010 you can't be employed as a Drugs Worker (even in a voluntary capacity) without a Level 3 qualification? What do you really know about drugs and substance misuse? Misconceptions about addiction in all of its many forms abound in society today. Despite this, and the proliferation of "urban myths" surrounding the use and abuse of drugs, intoxicants, and other substances, many people have, at best, a perfunctory understanding of the subject.

This course, which has been recently rewritten to encompass all the latest changes in control and legislation, advances in treatments and therapies, and accepted "best practice" in them, will give you a thorough grounding in the subject and enable you to assist and treat sufferers. It's also useful for giving parents an insight into what is available to their children, how and when they are likely to come into contact with drugs and illegal substances, and how to recognise the effects.

The course follows a logical structure, from explaining the language and jargon associated with the subject matter, an exploration of the types and definitions of drugs, how to identify and treat symptoms and deal with emergencies, and an exhaustive section dealing with the physical and mental effects of prolonged drug use. It also examines the way drugs affect different body types, differing levels of physical fitness and psychological tolerance. Finally, treatments and counselling are looked at in some detail, and the course makes students aware of organisations and processes that potentially enable detoxification and "kicking the habit".

The issue of legislation affects us all in every aspect of our lives, and the caring professions have more than their fair share of applicable rules, regulations and legal compliance requirements. There is a dedicated section which demystifies the relevant legislation affecting those working in the drug and substance abuse fields, and how those laws influence both policy and practice within the sector.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
