Safety Management (Level 3)
The need to ensure the working environment is safe and secure to prevent accidents and disasters within the workplace is high on the agenda of most modern organisations.
Knowledge of safety organisation and structure will provide the student with the necessary skills and techniques needed to plan and manage an effective safety program.
This course will provide the student with the information to implement a safety program at their own facilities. Managers and team members interested in a detailed understanding of the safety process will find this course invaluable.

Syllabus:
Module 1 - Safety in the Workplace
- Identify the various people involved in prevention of accidents
- Explain the supervisors role in accident prevention
Module 2 - Good Housekeeping Practices
- Discuss Good Housekeeping practices identifying necessary precautions
- Summarise he benefits of machine guards
- Identify the necessity for special precautions
Module 3 - Fire Prevention and Fire Protection
- Examine fires in the workplace, their origin and methods of prevention
- Discuss the main causes of fires in the workplace
- Describe what measures you should take to prevent fires
Module 4 - Personal, Protective Equipment and Clothing
- Describe health hazards in the workplace indicating the importance of protective clothing and equipment
- Identify why protective clothing and equipment are necessary
Module 5 - Management of Safety Programmes
- Discuss the importance of management in safety programmes
- Summarise your understanding of:
- Clearly Defined Organised Policy
- Clearly Defined Standards for Management Work
- Evaluate Individual Performance
- Use of Self-Appraisals
- Measurement Control
Module 6 - Civil Emergency Procedures
- Summarise ways of coping with an emergency explaining how you would deal with a fire
- List two points of importance when handling an emergency
- Describe five procedures you should follow on finding a fire in a building
- Discuss the reasons for wrapping children in a blanket during a fire
Module 7 - Civil Defence Legislation and other Labour Legislation
- Evaluate bomb threats and show how to minimise loss of lives and property in a disaster
- List 5 precautions an organisation should take to minimise effects of a ‘disaster’
Module 8 - First-Aid and Basic Safety Rules for Industrial Health and Welfare
- Discuss health aspects of the worker and suggest various measure to keep the workforce fit, healthy and productive
- Explain why a company should consider any of your recommendations
Assessment
Assessments are a great way of checking your progress allowing you to apply your learning to real-world situations. Through the Safety Management (Level 3) Course by NCFE, students will be assessed by a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor.
All assignments are set by NCFE. Upon verification of the activities, exercises and assignments, a certificate of achievement will be awarded by the national awarding organisation NCFE, as confirmation that your written work has met all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the programme.
There is no external examination required.

You will have access to a tutor, via email, who will mark your work and guide you through the course to help you be ready for your examinations. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.

- Learners will need sufficient numeracy and literacy
