This course is designed to meet the learning and professional development needs of human resource and training practitioners, managers, researchers and policy-makers who are involved in designing or researching workplace learning, work practices and skills systems for improved organisational performance.


Duration and mode of study

Two to three years by distance learning. We also offer undergraduate distance learning courses in human resources.

Start Dates

There will be a start date in February, May and October each year with study commencing on the first day of each month.

Description

This course is designed to meet the learning and professional development needs of human resource and training practitioners, managers, researchers and policy-makers who are involved in designing or researching workplace learning, work practices and skills systems for improved organisational performance. You will acquire the latest academic and professional knowledge in understanding the complex relationships between learning, skills, work practices and organisational performance. There is also an option at Module 3 to enhance this knowledge in the global or national comparative context or to specialise in organisational performance and skills.

Teaching and assessment methods

The course is studied by distance learning and is based upon the principles of continuous assessment. Each course starts with the Academic Writing Skills (AWS) module, which is designed to prepare you for studying at Master’s level at CLMS. You will then be required to complete an assignment of 4,000-5,000 words at the end of each of the four modules and a 16,000-20,000 word dissertation.

Requirements

  • Possession of a first or second-class honours degree (or its equivalent) in a relevant field
  • OR an approved professional qualification coupled with three years or more suitable professional experience.

If your first language is not English you will need to satisfy the University's English language requirements.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
