The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT is designed to provide you with a broad education as a foundation both for training leading to employment and/or for Further Education.

Description

Communicating in the IT industry

1) Be able to communicate information to suit audience, purpose and content
2) Be able to use IT tools to communicate and exchange information
3) Understand the impact of IT on individuals, communities and society

Working in the IT industry

1) Know the characteristics that are valued by employers in the IT industry
2) Know the common job roles undertaken by people working in the IT industry

Computer Systems 

1) Know different uses of computers in homes and businesses
2) Be able to explain the use of common types of hardware in a personal computer system
3) Know how to select software for a specified user 
4) Be able to safely connect hardware devices and configure software for a specified user

Website Development

1) Understand purposes of websites and the laws and guidelines that concern their development
2) Understand the principles of multipage website design
3) Be able to create a multiple page website

Database Systems

1) Understand the structure and principles of databases
2) Be able to create a simple database to meet user needs
3) Be able to create database queries, forms and reports
4) Be able to document a database

Spreadsheet Modelling

1) Understand what spreadsheets are and how they can be used
2) Be able to create complex spreadsheets that use a range of formulae, functions and features
3) Be able to use spreadsheets to present, analyse and interpret data
4) Be able to check and document a spreadsheet function

Computer Graphics

1) Understand the hardware and software required to work with graphic images 
2) Be able to create and modify graphic images to meet a user need
3) Be able to select, acquire and import appropriate images to enhance a document

You will be assessed through a portfolio of coursework covering all units.

Requirements

Applicants should possess four GCSEs at grade D or above including English and Maths.  It is important that applicants have a substantial interest in IT.
