Description
This is a specialist degree that provides practical and theoretical training in areas of major financial interest, in particular investment management and corporate finance. This masters degree is designed for those who wish to enter a career in finance or related areas including financial institutions, financial regulatory bodies, public sector institutions and International organisations, in positions such as investment analyst, financial analyst, trader and portfolio manager.

Requirements:
At least a good 2nd Class Honours degree (high 2.2) or overseas equivalent in a subject with some quantitative elements. Subjects likely to contain sufficient quantitative elements (which have at least 1 mathematics or statistics based module) including mathematics, science, engineering, economics, finance, accounting, business and management. 1 economics or finance module is also required. Weight will be given to prior relevant work experience.
Assessment Methods:
The grade for each module is assessed through coursework, which counts for 25 per cent of the final marks, along with a written exam in May for each course unit which counts for 75 per cent. The 5,000-word dissertation written over the summer counts for 2 modules and will include both theoretical content and applied results.

Compulsory modules: Business finance; investment management; commercial and investment banking; quantitative techniques or econometrics for finance; eviews; financial derivatives; data analysis; dissertation. Electives: Empirical finance; behavioural finance; asset management; risk management for banking; principals of accounting; applied risk management; international finance; applied futures and options; banking regulations; cases in business finance; topics in applied finance; topics in financial econometrics; bond market strategies; alternative investments; valuation and private equity; topics in actuarial finance and insurance; applied wealth management; credit rating; mergers and acquisitions; Islamic finance in practice; strategic asset allocation; portfolio construction theory.
