Description
Course details
This qualification has two stages, each comprising 120 credits. Stage 1 provides the underpinning knowledge and skills needed for more advanced study at Stage 2.
You’ll explore the origins and scope of youth work; its underpinning values and changing contexts; and the roles and responsibilities of practitioners and policy makers – reflecting on your own practice throughout. Then a work-based module will help you develop practical and analytical skills needed to work directly with young people (individually and in groups).
- Working with young people: an introduction (E108)
Understand the key principles and ideas which underpin work with young people, and learn to take a reflective stance towards your own and others’ practice.
- Introduction to working with young people in practice (E118)
Develop the skills needed to work effective with young people – individually and in groups – and enhance the quality of the relationships you build with them.
You’ll start with a work-based module designed to develop the practical and analytical skills needed to lead and manage work with young people. Then you’ll investigate diverse experiences of childhood in different communities around the world – including notions of childhood; the range of influences in children's lives; transitions from childhood to youth; the role of youth in contemporary cultures; and the problems and challenges faced by many young people as they attempt to establish themselves as adults.
A nationally recognised qualification in its own right, the foundation degree is also equivalent to the first two thirds of the BA (Honours) Youth Work (Q55) degree.
