Who is it for?

This course will introduce you to the Health & Social care sector. Once the background material, largely concerning applicable legislation and the National Health Service, has been clearly laid out, it guides you through a thorough examination of child development. You are then given an insight into many of the common health issues that affect most of us throughout our lives, including common diseases and illnesses like cancer. Subsequent units help you understand the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body, and their impact on society. The course also deals with the mental health issues linked to all of these.

Within the health section, you will also explore the symptoms and treatment of various conditions, the importance of nutrition, and the physical and emotional effects of eating disorders.

Description

How will I benefit?

Focus Awards’ ‘Focus on Quality Provision’ (FQP) courses are ideal for those who are looking to gain new knowledge and skills, who may not have the time, money, or simply not need to obtain a qualification in their area of study. They are ideal for CPD courses as they still carry endorsement from a national Awarding Organisation. FQP courses are also ideal for those subjects that fall outside of the QCF and people who want to take a course as a hobby.

Are there any requirements?

Anybody with a reasonable standard of general education will be able to cope with the academic demands of the course. If you can read and write well enough to complete a job application, and have a good grasp of basic maths (add, subtract and divide) you should have no problems. The course materials are written in simple everyday language and the answers to your assignments will be completed in the same style.

In addition to the comprehensive course materials provided, you will receive a Study Guide to assist you, and, of course, you will have the support of your tutor.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
