Overview

Consolidate and improve Linux administration skills and knowledge with a vendor-neutral Linux+ qualification from CompTIA.

Description

Consolidate and improve Linux administration skills and knowledge with a vendor-neutral Linux+ qualification from CompTIA. Designed for junior network engineers with 6 months or more hands-on experience of using Linux, the Linux+ course from e-Careers gives students a complete understanding of installing, using and administering the Linux operating system.

Low-level concepts such as OS installation and command line operation are covered in depth, in addition to disk management and partitioning techniques required for specialist deployment scenarios. Engineers will also learn advanced configuration techniques through the use of config files and bash scripts, automating key functions and helping to ensure PCs and servers continue to operate in peak condition.

Students will also learn how to deploy Linux-based computers in a networked environment, enabling key IP services and hardening others to improve security and prevent data breaches. The course also covers the low-level services and operating system kernel, ensuring that students have a complete understanding of how Linux can be customised to meet specific business needs.

And as a vendor-neutral course, the skills acquired through the CompTIA Linux+ qualification can be applied in any Linux computing environment.

key learning points

Initially students will be taken through the basics of installing and configuring the Linux operating system, before moving on to bash scripting and config file use to complete PC/Server set-up.

Engineers will then move onto advanced topics including:

  • Configuring users and groups to restrict and protect data access in a networked environment.
  • Advanced shell scripting techniques to improve administration.
  • Installing and configuring packages, kernels and software.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting system processes to keep servers and PCs running in peak condition.
  • Security configurations that can be used to harden Linux and improve system and data security.
  • An introduction to some of the most popular Linux distributions including SUSEE, Fedora, CentOS and Debian.
  • Troubleshooting common IT issues including Linux PC hardware and network services.

Once complete, system engineers will have a complete understanding of the Linux operating system, and how to manage and support it in a corporate environment.

advantages of this course

Helping systems administrators and support technicians to quantify and clarify their Linux knowledge, the CompTIA Linux+ course from e-Careers is an in-depth introduction to the operating system and its use. Participants enrolling on the Linux+ course can expect to benefit from:

  • Vendor-neutral training that can be applied to any Linux installation in a corporate or home environment.
  • Improved skills and understanding that allow engineers to tackle any Linux-based computer problem.
  • A good understanding of deploying and managing Linux in a corporate network environment.
  • Full preparation for sitting and passing the CompTIA Linux+ exam.
  • Improved job prospects built on the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the course.

The CompTIA Linux+ course is essential for system engineers who need to validate and improve their knowledge of the Linux system, and who want to work towards the associated Linux+ certification.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
