About this Course

The CIW Web Design Specialist course is for the individual who wants to develop the skills necessary to specialise in Web site design. In this course, you will build upon your basic Web authoring skills to learn the essentials and best practices of Web design, including design theory, tools and technologies. Students with little or no background in Web design should consider starting with the CIW Web Foundations Associate course to learn the basics of Web site authoring and development.

The CIW Web Design Specialist course has been designed to be completed through an award winning learning platform which grants students access to all of the learning materials and resources required prior to taking the examination. Because of the nature of this learning platform, full tutor support is not required but students so have 24/7 contact to technical support should they require any help.

Assessments

The CIW Web Design Specialist course prepares candidates to take the CIW Web Design Specialist exam, which, if passed, earns the individual the CIW Web Design Specialist certification. Candidates who also earn the  CIW E-Commerce Specialist certification earn the advanced CIW Web Design Professional certification. CIW courses are examined in either a Pearson VUE or Prometric test centre and candidates must apply for their examinations and pay the necessary fee of £90 to sit the test.

Requirements

Students taking this course need a basic understanding of Internet functionality and tools, and X/HTML. No prerequisite courses or certifications are required prior to taking this course or the corresponding certification exam. However, the course and exam are challenging and comprehensive. CIW offers the Web Foundations Associate curriculum to provide the base of foundational X/HTML and Internet knowledge necessary for this course. The CIW Foundations courses are not required, but for many candidates they are extremely helpful.
