The CIW Web Design Specialist Course is aimed at those who want to specialise in web design and prepares you to take the CIW 1D0-520 exam.
This CIW web design course builds upon the skills taught in the Web Foundations Associate course. It is an ideal course for web designers, internet consultants, IT professionals, marketing professionals, web and graphic artists and business professionals. The course guides you in detail through the essentials and best practices of web design, including design theory, tools and technologies.
This qualification is one half of the CIW Web Design Professional certification which is made up of this course and the CIW E-Commerce Specialist course.
The CIW Web Design Specialist is listed on the QCF at Level 4 with 20 Credits (QCF Qualification No. L_502_8998).
The course has been designed as a self-study course and you can take as long as you need to complete it. Tutor support is available via email should you need assistance.
APPLE MAC USERS: We recommend you complete this course on a PC with the Windows Operating System. While the course can be run on an Apple Macs using software such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop 7, VMware fusion or CrossOver Mac, we cannot support any issues that may occur with PC-Based software running on a Mac.

Description
- Web site development essentials, including the site development process, customer expectations, and ethical and legal issues in Web development.
- Web design elements, including aesthetics, the site user's experience, navigation, usability and accessibility.
- Basic Web technologies, including Hypertext Markup Language [HTML], Extensible HTML [XHTML] and extended technologies, image files, GUI site development applications, and site publishing and maintenance.
- Advanced Web technologies, including multimedia and plug-in technologies, client-side and server-side technologies, and Web databases.
- Popular production tools, including Microsoft Expression Web, and Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash.
- Design and development technologies, including Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Extensible Markup Language (XML), JavaScript, Java applets and Dynamic HTML.
- Current issues in Web design, including the extensibility of design tools, compatibility of these tools, open-source applications and the functionality of current Web browsers.
Assessment:
Once you've completed this course you can apply for the internationally recognised CIW Web Design Specialist 1D0-520 Examination, which is currently £90.00 + VAT. Exams must be sat at a registered Prometric or Pearson VUE testing centre. The exam consists of 70 multiple choice/multiple answer questions over 75 minutes and the passing score is 70%. You can locate testing centres and schedule examinations on the Prometric and Pearson VUE Websites.
On successful completion of this course you will be able to apply for the internationally recognised CIW 1D0-520 Examination. You must pass the examination in order to gain the qualification.
This qualification is listed on the QCF (QCF Qualification No: L_502_8998) at level 4 and is assigned 20 credits. It is also one half of the CIW Web Design Professional certification. Together with the CIW E-Commerce Specialist certification students can earn the advanced CIW Web Design Professional certification.
Qualifying as a Certified CIW Web Design Professional proves your aptitude and ability in the areas of Web site design and e-commerce.

Requirements
There are no prior qualifications or experience required to enrol on this course. However, we recommend that you have knowledge of basic HTML or XHTML Programming before enrolling. If you have little or no background in web design, we recommend you start with the CIW Web Foundations Associate course in order to learn the basics of web site authoring and development.
