This CACHELevel3 Award in HealthcareSupport in the Paediatric Setting is designed to teach the principles of duty of care, safeguarding and protection and accountability when working as a healthcare assistant with children. The course is designed for those who wish to work in paediatric settings, caring for children with health issues and helping in recovery.

Study time: 80 hours

Unit 1: Understand the role, legal ad ethical accountability of the healthcare assistant when assisting in the delivery of care

Throughout this first unit of this course we will look at how the healthcare assistant works within policies and procedures to ensure they provide the best possible care. This is important in paediatric healthcare and this unit will cover procedures and legislation to be followed as well as accountability and responsibility of each person in the healthcare provision. We will also look at the roles and responsibilities of those working in this sector as well as values and behaviours that are required in the job role.

Unit 2: Understand safeguarding and protection of children and young people in the paediatric setting

In this unit of the course we will be looking at the safeguarding and protection of children. When working in a paediatric healthcare setting it is very important to be able to work in a way that gives the most protection to those in your care. Being able to spot any signs of neglect or harm and then take the correct actions where necessary will ensure that you protect every child in the setting fully.

Unit 3: Principles for implementing duty of care in young people’s settings

In this unit of the course we will be looking at the safeguarding and protection of children. When working in a paediatric healthcare setting it is very important to be able to work in a way that gives the most protection to those in your care. Being able to spot any signs of neglect or harm and then take the correct actions where necessary will ensure that you protect every child in the setting.

Unit 1: Understand the role, legal and ethical accountability of the healthcare assistant when assisting in the delivery of care

Understand current legal and organisational frameworks in relation to the role of the healthcare assistant

Understand delegated responsibility and accountability in relation to the role of the healthcare assistant

Know the employment rights and responsibilities of the healthcare assistant

Understand values and behaviours underpinning the role of the healthcare assistant

Unit 2: Understand safeguarding and protection of children and young people in the paediatric setting

Understand current legislation and guidelines for the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children

Understand policies and procedures for the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children

Understand the purpose of serious case reviews

Understand how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child has been abused or harmed

Unit 3: Principles for implementing duty of care in young people’s settings

Understand how duty of care contributes to safe practice

Know how to address conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between an individual’s rights and the duty of care

Know how to respond to complaints

ASSESSMENTS

This course is assessed through tutor marked assignments which must be sent to your tutor for marking. You will then be provided with feedback and a mark on your work from your tutor within 5 days. After each assignment has been sent off and marked as complete you will have passed the qualification and will receive your certification.
