Overview

Do you want to become a fully qualified teacher?

Do you want flexible contact hours, expert training, a guaranteed work placement and recruitment support?

The Diploma in Education and Training (DET, formelly DTTLS) is a practical and popular qualification for teaching developed in conjunction with Ofqual and the Learning and Skills Improvement Services (LSIS). The Diploma is now the most effective route to gaining Qualified Teacher Leaning and skills (QTLS) status, enabling you to teach in schools, colleges and in further education.

The course content is similar to a PGCE and the qualification carries the same value and credit with regulators, employers and the education and training sectors. The difference is the DET is far less costly and time consuming, and allows the holder to enter the classroom fully qualified upon completion.

During the 12 month course you’ll benefit from individualised support and advice. You’ll get the advantage of one to one support, tutorials, feedback, suggestions and tailored advice that only a real expert can provide.

In addition to this your tutor will visit you to observe you teaching or training students in your own environment. This will give you the opportunity to integrate the theory and best practice techniques into your own teaching.

Classes are held once a week, allowing you to study alongside a full time job.

Description

During the DET course you will have the opportunity to:

  • Carry out research into education and training.
  • Investigate policies and professionalism in the education and training sectors.
  • Research your own role and potential as a teacher/trainee.
  • Contribute to quality improvement within your own organisation.
  • Help develop quality assurance within your own teaching practice.
  • Demonstrate theories and principles of inclusive teaching and learning in professional practice.

All trainees are expected to do a minimum of 100 hours teaching practice, including 11 hours of observed lessons. Placement in a school, college or adult training centre is guaranteed to all our students.

The final stage of your qualification is to be accepted at a school or college and finally gain entry into the profession, knowing all your hard work and dedication has paid off. More than two-thirds of the organizations we place trainees in for teaching practice hire them at the end of the training period.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
