This course is a competence-based qualification, which has been designed for those who want to start a career as a teacher in the further education sector. It is easy to breakthrough into the teaching industry now without having to go through the long process of PGCE, etc.. This qualification replaced the PTLLS qualification in August 2014. If you want to deliver accredited vocational training or teach on apprenticeship programmes, you are required to have this qualification as a minimum requirement.
Before enrolling on a course, students should make sure that they are following a course of study that results in formal recognition of their knowledge and skills by a reputable awarding body such as Focus Awards.
If you are amongst those who have never liked exams when they were in school, well I have good news for you. There is no final exam!! Assessment is portfolio based.
Description
This course enables the student to understand the role of a Teacher in education and training which is mainly the further educations sector where you will be teaching 16 years old and above. To achieve this qualification you will need to complete three units as listed below:
Unit 1 – Understanding Roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training (3 credits)
This is the mandatory unit for the course, where you will learn about your role as a teacher in lifelong learning. It is the foundation of the course and will give you all the knowledge you need to be effective as a teacher in the education and training sector.
Unit 2 – Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training (6 credits)
This unit is a mixture of knowledge and practical and will give you the understanding you need to be able to understand the various learning and teaching strategies and methods. You will also learn about equality and diversity and their importance. You will also learn about planning an inclusive session, using inclusive approaches and assessment methods. You will have the opportunity to plan and deliver a short lesson as part of your micro-teach.
Unit 6 – Understanding the principles and practices of assessment (3 credits)
This unit is about assessment and will teach you everything you need to know about it. If in the future you decide to become an Assessor, having completed this unit you will get an exemption for unit 1 of the Assessor course.

Who is this course for?

As a Teacher in the further education sector, some of your day to day role will be as follows:
- Plan lesson and scheme of work
- Produce materials and resources to use in the delivery of lessons
- Deliver teaching sessions using various teaching approaches that are inclusive
- Plan assessment for learners using valid methods
- Identify the needs of learners and adapt lessons to meet those needs
- Maintain records of assessment

- Level 2 written and spoken English (Equivalent to GCSE A-C)

An employed Assessor can earn around £20-£23k to start with and this can go up to £35K per annum. On a freelance basis, employers tend to pay per learner, therefore you can earn between £300 - £600 per learner you assess, depending on the qualification you are assessing.
