Overview

The AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is the intermediate level of the AAT Accounting Qualification.

If you have prior experience in accountancy you maybe be able to enrol directly on to this course. If you have no previous experience then you will need to take the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting first.

This course offers technical training in accounting and its main purpose is to provide you with the specialist knowledge you need to gain employment in an accounting role and to progress further in an accountancy or financial role.

NOTE: This qualification is also known as the AAT Intermediate Diploma in Accounting. Due to changes in AAT's specifications, the last available enrolment date for this course is 31st August 2016, with the last available assessment date on 31st December 2017.

Description

If you take this distance learning AAT Level 3 Diploma course, you will understand more complex financial processes, including final accounts for sole traders and partnerships, reports and returns and professional ethics.

We assume you already have access to Sage to complete the computerised module of this course.

Prepare final accounts for sole traders and partnerships

  • Understanding the process involved in preparing final accounts
  • Preparing accounting records from incomplete information
  • Producing final accounts for sole traders
  • Understanding partnerships legislative and accounting requirements
  • Preparing a statement of profit or loss appropriation account
  • Preparing a financial position statement relating to a partnership.

Costs and revenues

  • Understanding an organisation's costing systems
  • Recording and analysing cost information
  • Apportioning costs to organisational requirements
  • Analysing budget deviations and reporting these to management
  • Using information gathered from costing systems to assist decision making.

Professional ethics

  • Understanding principles of ethical working
  • Understanding ethical behaviour when working with internal and external customers
  • Understanding when and how to take appropriate action following suspected ethical codes breaches

  • Understanding VAT regulations

Qualification information

On successful completion of the on-line exam you will receive the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

In Scotland this is a Level 6 qualification.

AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) award around 90% of all vocational qualifications in accounting, and are sponsored by the professional accounting bodies CIPFA, ICAEW, CIMA and ICAS

Method of study:

This course is a mixture of paper based and online materials.

Method of assessment

There are 6 separate exams for AAT Level 3.

There are two main types of computer based assessment (CBA):

  • Computer based tests (CBT) marked by AAT at a registered testing centre. Level 2 and 3 provisional results are available on the assessment day.
  • Computer based projects (CBP) marked by UK Distance Learning & Publishing. Results are available after you project has been assessed and internally verified by us.

You will need to pay a fee for your exams, which usually range from £34 to £39.

When you enrol on the course you will need to register as a member of AAT and the current cost is £39.00 and this is a one-off fee.

You will also need to pay an annual membership fee of £84.00 and this can be paid by Direct Debit in instalments if preferred.

Course length information:

You can take up to 24 months to complete your course and the guided learning hours (GLH) is approximately 305 hours.
