Who’s hired? You decide
13 December 2011
We need a new TV ad and we want you to decide who gets the job. Find out how we're giving six filmmakers the opportunity to win a career-changing prize.
In September 2009, reed.co.uk launched its first Short Film Competition. It was a simple affair: make a three minute film about what makes your workplace wonderful.
It was our first foray into the world of Short Film, as we looked for a new and exciting way to support creativity and the arts at the same time as giving young talent genuine opportunity. And we were not disappointed.
From the 250 entries, we eventually reached a shortlist of 12, and, finally, a winner. Oscar Sharp's 'Sign Language' took the Grand Prix and went on to win a host of other accolades, including top prize at the prestigious Virgin Media Shorts.
The quality of entries was astounding and we knew we were on to something. So, a year later, we ran the second reed.co.uk Short Film Competition, which featured an equally accomplished shortlist, and was won by Ben Ridolfi and Phil Derham's 'Spread the Word'.
But what to do with all this talent?
The answer was a relatively simple one: create another opportunity. And so, 'Who's hired? You decide' was born.
We invited the shortlisted filmmakers from the first two competitions to compete with one another to create us a new TV ad. The brief was simple: 30 seconds, around our well-established 'Love Mondays' campaign message.
Once again, we were knocked sideways by the sheer quality of the work and reaching a shortlist of six was agonisingly hard.
The last six filmmakers are now competing head-to-head for your vote to win the ultimate prize: their ad shown on national TV in January and a £10,000 prize.
We can't wait to unveil the winning ad, but it's all to play for. Voting closes on the 11 January, 2012, so now's the time to watch, vote and drum up support for your favourite ad.
